Our vision, mission, and mindset

With a clear mandate for inspiring and advancing the smarter use and re-use of metals in Aotearoa New Zealand, Metals NZ remains unwavering in its commitment to stoking positive change. Gone are the days of ‘take, make, waste’. Building a sustainable future for the generations to come requires a new mindset in how we use our most valuable resources.

Vision

We see a thriving New Zealand bolstered by the innovation and strength within a successful and sustainable metals sector.

Mission

From residential to commercial, through industrial to infrastructure, we will continue to work collaboratively with partners to deliver quality products for use in residential, commercial and infrastructure build projects. In doing so we will support the sector’s transition to a low emissions and circular economy future.

Mindset

The role of metals in the circular economy sets us apart from the dated linear supply models of take, make and waste. Metals NZ views sustainability in a holistic perspective, going beyond an environmental view to include human, social and cultural deliverables.

  • Free and fair trade is vital for our future. New Zealand is obligated to protect our manufacturing businesses from dumped, subsidised imports.
  • Strong, precise building code and regulations are critical to ensure our buildings avoid the mistakes of the past and deliver throughout the future.
  • Robust government procurement is critical, improving access for business and ensuring this process can drive the development of expertise throughout the sector.
  • Research is critical to our future. Equitable access to government funding is essential for New Zealander’s manufacturing and construction sectors to thrive alongside other industries.
  • Improving productivity is critical to deliver a better standard of living for all New Zealanders.
