We are very pleased the Government has started work on reforms to improve New Zealand’s building and construction sector.
We support Government’s goals to achieve: 1) safe & durable buildings; 2) an efficient regulatory system that people have confidence in and; 3) a high performing building sector that builds it right first time.
But, we’ve got some concerns.
Firstly, MBIE has not consulted widely with the sector in developing its proposals for Building Legislative Reform. Secondly, the building consent process is absent from the reform agenda.
We believe a review of the consenting process is central to achieving “a sustained transformation of the industry”.
